PATEA.

BOROUGH COUNCIL. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the Patca Borough Council was held on Monday evening last, His Worship the Mayor (Mr. P. S. Finlayson) presiding. The sanitary inspector wrote with reference to the sanitary-state of the town, and instanced certain places that have not yet complied with the regulations. Cr. Thomson thought the inspector should be asked to see that no overcrowding was taking place in any of the dwellings in the town. The Mayor tabled a resume of the work done at- the recent Municipal Conference, and on the motion of Cr. Christensen the report was received and the Mayor was accorded a vote of thanks. The sum of £1 5s is held to the credit of the Dobson Mine Disaster Fund, and it was resolved to forward the .amount and the lists to the proper authorities.. :

It was resolved that the license fee for kerbside pumps be the same as last year, viz. £1 Is.

An application was received aiid granted to run a water-pipe under the footpath from a shop in Egmont Street.

Cr. Thomson thought that all work that necessitated cutting up the footpaths should be done by the borough’s staff, and the applicant charged with the cost. By this method they were certain of getting the paths left .in good order, w'hereas in many cases where property holders had been allowed to do the work, the paths were left in an unfinished state.

Uncollectable rates and lighting dues were written off.

The engineer reported that the hydroplant ran 087 hours, and the Dicsei 31 hours during the month, generating 13,660 and 1,284 ujiits respectively. The water level in both dams had been exceptionally high for this period of the year, and by running the Diesel plant for one day per week, an all night service had been .maintained. Tlje water had been exceptionally high -during the month, no less than 1,860,400 gallons having been pumped, which averages out over 60,000 gallons per da j. The report was adopted.
