(From Our Own Correspondent.) G EX Eli AL. The school picnic, postponed from tile ‘Joth ult., is to be held nt Gardens on Friday. The,newly-formed.tennis club intends holding its opening day on Tuesday next, when friendly matches will be played by members and friends. In the evening a ball will be held in the local hall. The energetic secretary (Miss Wood) has everything well in *' hand for an enjoyable time, and is ably supported by her committee. The local school children enjoyed, themselves immensely ou the occasion of the visit of the Duke and Duchess, and had quite a good view. The people of liawera deserve the thanks of all the country parents for their elforts to cater for aud entertain the children. TE KIRI SHOW. The local branch of the Farmers’ Union (Awatuua-Te Kiri) held the first cattle show to be .seen in Te Kiri on Saturday. Their initial snow last year was held at Aw at an a. There' were very large entities in the class for cow, any age, and also the yearling heifer class. Mr. Anderson, from Kapouga, kindly gave a medal for the winnei; in the fargest class, and this was non by Mr. B. Coupe with his Holstein yearling heifer. Mr. Pettigrew, the judge of the cattle classes, was very painstaking with ms work, and kindly demonstrated the points of the winners. The secretary of the branch (Mr. I*. Street) and chairman (Mr. Davison) had all details well arranged. The sweet! and diink stall, ill charge of Mrs _ Coxlieud and Miss .Mtliur) son, did good business, as did the luncheon booth, which included Mesdamcs Collin*), McCarrihon, Hughes, Beer, Templeton, anti Miss It. Hughes. Ibe chain-stepping, which was won by Mr. W.. Crawford, was in the bands of MMr W.. Davison, and tile sheep-guess-ing;, tun by Mr. Hughes, was won by ‘ •; Mr. M.
