BOY SCOUT NOTES.

/ * *JT (By “Tenderfoot.”) Monday evening is firmly and happily fixed in the minds of all who attended the .Scout’s Hall. A number of parents accepted the general invitation issued by the officers of the troop and expressed themselves as greatly impressed. The evening was divided into three sections. In the first section ordinary scouting was carried on in much the usual way. Under aeting-S.M. Cowie the whole troop did ambulance work. This has for years been a strong point with our troop. It is probable that we shall for some time not exceed the standard already obtained in this branch of our work. Progress will, however, be made steadily among the new scouts. On this occasion careful and accurate work was done. Under assist.ant-S.M. J. Philip a patrol did some good bridge-building. In a remarkably short space of time a two-trestle bridge was erected. When subjected to several severe tests the structure survived. Under the patrol leaders a few minutes were devoted to physical culture. Scouts are being strongly urged to make this one of the regular practices of their lives.

The second section of the evening began by acting-Scouter L. C. H. Barbour’s introducing the District Commis sinner, Mr. F. W. Horner, to the troop. Mr., Horner spoke words of inspiration and encouragement to the scouts. Several scouts who have recently qualified for proficiency badges were then called out and authorised by the Commissioner to wear the badges - The list is as follows: — Handyman’s.— Patrol-Lead6r Leslie Wise, Patrol-Leader Ron. Ashton, Pat-rol-Leader ,T. Mullins, Patrol-Leader .T. Sorensen, Troop-Leader C. Whiting. Dairyman’s.—Patrol-Leader L. Wise. Cyclist’s.—Scout J. Clark. . Horseman’s.—Patrol-Leader Ashton. The following scouts were authorised to wear the all-round cords. This is dintinction conferred upon first-class scouts, who have passed at least six badge tests. Patrol-Leader J. Sorensen, Patrol-Leader Ashton, PatrolLeader Mullins. Four scouts were called upon to receive the King’s scout badge. To these scouts Mr. Horner spoke special words of congratulation. Amid great applause these honoured scouts retired to their respective ranks. Recommendatios of promotion were made and received by the Commissioner. That Troop-Leader C. Whiting become assistant-Scouter, and that PatrolLeader Mullins be made Troop-Leader. A generous supper was supplied by the ladies of the committee.
