MEETING AT HASTINGS. (HI TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.? HASTINGS, March 5. One of the largest gatherings held in Hastings assembled at the sports meeting at Nelson Park, held in connection with the Royal visit. Competitors were nresent from Wanganui, Mafeterton, Wellington, Marton, Dannevirke and the neighbouring districts. Rose won the mile handicap from scratch in 4.23 4-5, shepherding the field to the last lap, where be got a handy position, drawing out dn the run home and winning; comfortably by three lengths. Oakley (Wanganui), 15 yards behind, won thei mile cycle, (time 2.18 4-5). and the two mi:Vs from 30 yards, behind (time 5.52 1-5). C. J. Robertson (Hastings) won the 220 yards handicap. ‘The 880 yards was won by H. J. McKenna (Dannevirke). Verry (Hastings) was second. Newton (Wanganui) was iir"t beaten _ for third nlace bv Campbell, of Hastings. Time, 2.0 1-5. v
