In motion pictures Lon Chaney’s name is synonymous with vivid realism. This .is more than a matter of make-up and temporary discomfort, for in many of his character roles it necessitates actual physical pain. Chaney had to submit to being tattooed for bis part in “The Road to Manila lay,” his new special production for Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, in older to give an accurate representation of the weird and sinister character lie portrays. Alter the picture was completed lie had the tattoo marks removed- — an extremely painful process. Chaney appears in this picture as ‘.‘Singapore ■Joe,” the brutal keeper of the Oriental dive. Lois Moran and Owen Moore are the other principals. David Wars Griffith remains one of the greatest American born motion picture directors and one of the foremost men of his profession in the world. There is fresh proof of this in his filming of “The Sorrows of Satan.” Thus writes one American critic, and another says.: You’ll be sorry if you miss “The Sorrows of Satan.” Once more Griffith proves himself one of the masters of his profession.
