OPUNAKE HARBOUR BOARD
(From Our Own Correspondent.) MONTHLY MEETING. The Opunake Harbour Board monthly meeting was held on Friday, there being present: Messrs C. H. Hurst (in the chair), J. A. Pettigrew, C. A, Trotter, R. C. Watson, H. Young, and the secretary (Mr J. N. Stephenson). An apology for absence was received from the chairman (Mr T. P. Hughson), and he was granted leave of absence. It was decided, on the request of the (Registrar, to have new titles for the board’s leases prepared at a cost of £1 each-
The secretary reported on inquiries for a suitable rail press for pressing out the 401 b rails which had been damaged by the big crane, and stated that nothing suitable had been obtained. The matter was left in the works’ committee’s hands. Two applications for leases of the board’s reserves were granted. Appreciation was expressed of the courtesy of Mr Lowson, the New Plymouth Harbour Board’s engineer, in various matters, and it was decided to write to him accordingly. A verbal report on the works stated that all works were proceeding satisfactorily. The large hauler had been moved into position at Middleton’s Bay, and was ready to haul stone into position for the big crane to handle. A subsidence in the mole had been filled up, and stone was being tipped at the 575 ft. and 600 ft bays. The wharf contractor had almost completed excavating at the Toot of the wharf. The aetfial wharf construction would be proceeded with straight away. Accounts amounting to £492 11s 4d wore passed for payment. The financial statement showed the loan account -to he in credit £945 13s 6d, and the fund account in debit £270 8s Bd.
