ANIMAL NOSE PRINTS.

CjUPPOSE that yon are the owner of

a handsome faithful dog. Some thief may come along and steal Bowser. If the robber clipper your dog or otherwise disguised his appearance, how would you identify him? Could you recognise your dumb friend—if he did not identify you immediately—if you visited the kennel or dog pound in which he might be confined with hundreds of others?

Nose-print records have proved 'dependable for identifying pot animals. A number of sheets of mineograph or newsprint paper about four inches squire and some black stamping pad ink are necessary equipment. Ordinary' writing fluid or blue or red stamping ink will not be suitable. Smooth - texture papers cannot be used. ..

Having secured the right kind of ink and paper, wipe the dog’s nose dry with a piece of fiaxinel; then press the stamping pad —well inked—against the dog’s nose. Attach the piece of paper to a sxnall slab of wood, and then press it against (the inked nose of the dog. Begin with the lower edge of the paper at the base of the upper lip, and roll towards the face. ‘Wipe the ink from the dog’s nose, and nostrils, and the task is finished.

Fraudulent dealers who handle purebred and registered dogs sometimes substitute mongrel animals of .'poor breeding that resemple full-blooded prizewinners, and sell them xinder bogus registration papers. When the system of nose printing dogs becomes commonplace, such frauds will be detected. Furthermore,, it will serve to discourage the theft of prize sets whose owners have the nose-print identification records.
