HAWERA SWIMMERS.
CLUB CUPS. competitions continued. The cup competitions conducted by the Hawera Amateur Swimming Club were continued in the Albion Street baths last evening when the senior 220 yards, the two 75 yards events in the junior contest, and the two 50 yards .races for novices were decided. In the senior competitions only the 440 yards handicap remains for decision while only the 100 yards event, remains to complete the junior oompetition. Three competitors are left in the running for the senior trophy, but A. Dowdle cannot now be beaten for the junior trophy. In the novice competition two races, each of 75 yards, have yet to be contested. The leading positions for the three trophies are : —< Senior cup.—C. Dowdle (seven noints), J. Loader (seven points), M. Wood (five and a half points). G. McLean, J. A. Devonport, and O. Robb are next on the list with three points each. 75 yards junior cup handicap, first race.—A. Dowdle (one second) 1. A. Spragg (scr.) 2, The only starters. Won by about eight feet. Time 57see. \ 75 yards junior cup handicap, second race.—A. Spragg (scr.) 1. A. Dowdle (scr.) 2. The only starters. Won bv half .a. yard. Time, 583-5.
50 yards novice cup handicap, first race.—Cl - Twist (scr.) 1, W.' Carter (two seconds) 2, S. Carter (3 seconds) 3. Also .started : L. Walker (scr.), L. Hulbert (two seconds), L. Westwood (four seconds). Won by two yards with only inches between second and third. Hulbert was a close fourth. Time, 38sec.
50 yards novice, cup handicap, second race.—W. Carter (5 seconds) 1. L. HCti-lb-ert- (6 i.soooncW) 2, O. 'Twist (scr.) 3. Also kstarted: Xu. Walker (4 seeends), S. Carter (7 seconds), L. Westwoocl (10 seconds). The decision went to W. Carter by a touch while the third man was a yard back just in front of Walker. Time. 40-sec.
Junior cup.—A. Dowdle (twejve points), A. Sprang (eight points). S. Anderson (six points), E. Gibson (one point). i Novice onp.—W. Carter (five points), 0. Twist (four points), L. Hulbert (twopoints), S. Carter (one point). 220 yards senior cup handicap.—C‘. Dowdle (eight seconds) 1, J. Loader ((six seconds) 2. M. Wood (five seconds) 3. Also started: A. Sprats (scr.), R. Sage ;,13 sec.), E. Griffon (13 sec.). Dowdle went to the front after the fourth turn and was never challenged. Spragg was actually second to finish four yards behind Dowdle and a touch in front of Loader who was a. foot in front of Wood, but as the first-named is not elegible for senior cup points the awards were made as indicated. Time, 3.24 3-5.
