PERSONAL ITEMS.
Mr P. H. Hartland, district railway traffic manager, passed through Hawera this morning. He said Hawera’s preparations for the Duke’s visit were further ahead than ini most other places. Mr. and Mrs. H. Frea,thing, of New Plymouth, came to Hawera yesterday and proceeded to Wellington by the mail train this morning. They .stayed at tbe White Hart hotel.
On Saturday Mr. M. F. Stead was met by his fellow members of the staff of the Bank of New Zealand when the manager, Mr. Hay-Maekenzic, presented him with a handsome Doulton rosebowl on the occasion of his forthcoming marriage. Mr. -Stead left for Wanganui later in the day and his wedding took place there yesterday.
Messrs B. McCarthy, C. H. Suisted, A. K. Fyson, and E Dixon are delegates from Hawera. Rotary Club to a conference in Auckland. The three first named left for the north on Sunday, and Mr. Dixon was already in Auckland.
Mr. L. G. Hill, of Whangarei, and formerly of Hawera, has been appointed secretary of the Dunedin Jockey CUib.Thohcr were over 100 applications for the position from all parts of the Dominion.
