Riggs (Port Nicholson Silver), 98, 2. Tenor Tnomboue (“Send Forth the Call”).—P. Croft (Wellington Tramways), 87, 1; J. Marshall (First Southland Regiment), 85, 2. Tiie B grade bands test selection resulted: i hirst test. —Danuevirke 1 (£2O prize), -New Plymouth Citizens’ 2 (£10), Fifth .Mounted, Oamaru, 3 (£5), Invercargill Civic 4 (£3). Seventeen bands competed.

NOTES ON THE TEST

WELLINGTON, Feb. 23

The Danne-Viirke Band, which won the B Grade first test, had) a. capital ensemble, with nice harmony and colouring and a brilliant cornetist. Invercargill Civic, which came fourth, is the old Invercargill Hibernian reconstructed, and contains several members of the well-known Wills family. Their cornet- solo work was most noticeable. Taken all through, much of the playing was surprisingly good, and the judge (Mr Halliwell) said that- Danneviirke had gained its position by good all-round work. HAWERA SEVENTH. BY TELEGRAPH SPECIAL TO THE STAR. WELLINGTON, Feb. 23. Hawera’-s position in the .first test was seventh. The points will not be available till after trie second. TO-DAY’S EVENTS. Wednesday—rOhampion B flat cornel (74 entries, in two sections): H. C. A. Fox, R. Swan, W. H, Cook, and H Wills (Hawera). Baritone solo (28 entries). Flugel born (29 entries).. The A Grade selection “Lortzing’’ will be put on at 7 o’clock this evening. there being 13 competitors. FOR TO-MORROW. For Thursday there will be:. E fllat bass (35 entries). Drum solo in pairs (14 entries). TL E. Robinson, and J. Kay (Hawera.). E- flat cornet (22 entries). N. Hawkins (Hawera). Trombone trio (24 entries). At seven o’clock in, the- evening the second R Grade -selection. “Fra Diavolo” (23 entries).
