REVISED PRAYER BOOK.
OPINION OF DEAN INGE. CLERGY WILL DEFY THE BISHOPS. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT Received 1.5 p.m. to-day. LONDON, Feb. 17. While Dean Inge expressed the opinion that the new prayer hook should be accepted, he doubts if it will bring peace. “The spirit of lawlessness will not be easily eradicated,” ,he said. “Scores of clergymen are prepared to defy the bishops’ discipline, which does not exist- in London. Tilings will he as before, with the advanced churches competing one with another to keep abreast of their rivals. If the bishops could tell the clergy to obey or resign, they would have, public support.” THE NEXT STAGE. Received 2.35 p.m to-day. LONDON, Feb. 18. The next stage in the revised prayer book will be its submission to the Convocation on February 22. Meanwhile the supporting bishops are necessarily silent, as their views are embodied in the revised prayer-book, which is circulating throughout the whole country. The Bishops of Norwich and Birmingham have published opposing.views, but the majority of the clergy and laity are awaiting developments at the Convocation.
