I CRUELTY TO A SHEEP. (BY TELEGBAPH —PEESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON. Feb. 15. A sentence of 14 clays’ imprisonment with hard labour, was imposed to-day by Mr Pave. S.M.. on Albert Son thee, who was proceeded against by the S.P.C'.A. for ill-treating a slicep. Evidence given by school children at L pper Hirtt of cruel use was borne out by -.he police evidence that the sheep had afterwards to be destroyed. Defendant pleaded that the animal had fallen over a bank and injured itself earlier in the day. ■‘l think this has been a wanton ac-t oi cruelty.” said Mr Page, commenting on the fact that the defendant had been three times convicted of cruelty to horses.
