MOTOR BUS AND VAN. COLLISION DURING- RAIN STORM. (by telegraph—press association.) AUCKLAND, Deb. 16. During a very heavy rain shower about eight o’clock last night, a motor bus bound for Otahuhu collided with a stationary motor van in Lower Symonds Street. The top of the bus was ripped away from the body, and the passengers were buried under a mass of tangled woodwork and broken glass. One passenger, Mrs. Elizabeth Porter, an elderly woman, was sent to hospital suffering from injury to one leg and she is also prostrated by shock. The motor van, which also was owned and driven by Mr. : S. James, of Avondale, was standing under a tree on the left side of the road. The lights were burning, but only the tail light was visible to the driver of the bus, which was owned by the Passenger Transport C 0... and was driven by Mr. Leonard Gillies. It was stated that the bus was travelling at about fifteen miles per hour. Most of the passengers suffered from shock. Some were able to crawl out of the wreckage, but others, including Mrs. Porter, and a small child, were extricated by the residents who rushed out of their homes on hearing the crash.
