ENTERTAINMENTS.

OPER A HOUSE. TO-NIGHT. HOOT GIBSON IN -THE TEN AS STREAK.” “Th© Texas Streak” which is to be shown at th© Opera House rior a two night season commencing to-night, is the latest Universal-Jewel production with the always popular Hoot Gibson in the starring role, land it promises to be one of the most entertaining pictures that personable and talented young man has ever made. The newest "offering, like most of Hoot’s pictures, consists largely of comedy, with Gibikon. as usual, contributing most of the humour by his solemn-faced antics, and a large cast of well-known screen performers gives him valuable assistance. Blanche Mehaffey, the pretty Irish miss, who will be remembered for her work in. “His People,” “Take It From Me,” “Hie Runaway Express',’’, and other productions, plays the feminine lead, and the balance of th© cast includes’ Alan Eoscoe, James Marcus, Jack Our bis. “Slim” Sumerville, Jack Murphy, Willilam. H. Turner, and others. “The Texas Streak”, was written and directed by Lynn Reynolds, who, made Gibson’s recent popular production, “Chip of the Flying U.” There is am excellent supporting programme. MAURICE AIOSCOVITCH. 0 The first big ‘Williamson attraction for 1927 is the appearance at the Opera House, Hawera, on Tuesday, February 22, for one night only, of Maurice Mdscovitch, the famous Russian actor, who is supported by a company of J. C. Williamson international artists. The company supporting the star includes among the newcomers Ellen Pollock, who was the original Tondaleyo in the London production of “White Cargo.” Margaret Murray and Alexander Sarner have been associated with Moscovitch in London triumphs. Clever people with the show are Nat Madison, Eileen Sparks, J. B. Atholwood, George Blunt, Reginald Newson, Leslie Donaghey, John Harper, Kiore King, and Kerri© Kelly. The production to be staged is a powerfully writ-, ten drama by Frederick Lonsdale, entitled VThe. Fake.” The climax is one of the most remarkable and uncommon yet seen on .the stage. One Sydney critic says: “Maurice Moscovitch’® greatest role and ‘The Fake’ is hailed everywhere by press and public as a masterpiece. of play writing and acting. It is a virile and well constructed and intensely, absorbing play, with strong dramatic situations, and just the subtle touch of comedy which Lonsdale knows how to introduce at unexpected moments.” The company is enjoying a wonderfully successful tour of th© Dominion, and its visit to Hawera will create much interest with theatregoers. The box plan opens to-morrow at the Opera House Confectionery.
