SCHOOL PICNIC

(From Our Own Correspondent.) At the monthly meeting of the school committee, held on Tuesday last, the matter of holding the annual school picnic was discussed and it was resolved to hold it on Friday 18th inst. at Opunake beach .and to engage two lorries, one to convey the children and one for the adults. It was also decided that the fare for adults should V be the same as last year viz. half acrown return and time of departure ~ was fixed at 9.45 a.m. This outing is always very popular and no doubt this year will bo .as largely /attended as usual. TENNIS CLUB. A team, from the local tennis club journeyed to Otakeho on Saturday sth in.st. to play the latter club in a competition match, but .suffered defeat by thirteen sets to three after some well contested games. The scores were as under, Otakeho players being named first an each case: Ladies’ Singles.—Miss L. Putt 6 beat Mrs. Malone 3; Miss E. Surgenor 6 beat Miss M. Franks 1 ;_Miss B. Putt 6 beat Miss. Cardan 0; Miss E. Burkhard t 3 beat Mrs. Shaw 4. Men’s Singles.—K. Clarke 6 heat J. Ca.iey 2; H. Putt 6 beat W. Josephson 4; A.. Surgenor 6 beat J. Malone 1 ; O. Davies 6 beat J. Hutchison 4.
