Mr. G. M. IMallett, inspector of the Audit department, is as present in Hawera, and staying at the Central Hotel.
Mr. H. L. Mar brook, an inspector of the Public Trust Department, i s visiting this town on business. Miss D. ltei.ly, of Hawera, who has been on a trip to Sydney, and who also attended tiie conference of musicians in Auckland last week, returned to Hawera on Saturday evening.
Mr. George Laurence, who has been appointed to the staff of Messrs. Walk* ley land Cameron, Public Accountants, arrived in Hawera to-day to take up his new duties.
Dr. A. M. Young left Hawera by the express train this morning for Wellington, en route for England.
A party of 1G American tourists arrived in’Hawera at 11 o’clock this morning. They subsequently left for the mountain. They will return tonight, and will be accommodated at the Central Hotel.
The burial of Lady Ward took place at Bluff on Sunday afternoon in calm sunshine, and in the presence of the largest and most representative gathering assembled under such solemn circumstances in Southland, including representatives of the Government and all local bodies. Boy Scouts formed a guard of honour at the station, whence the cortege left after the arrival of the train from Invercargill. Girl Guides also paraded, each Scout and Guide carrying a wreath from the station to the cemetery. The chief mourners were: Sir Joseph Ward, Mr. and Mrs. Cyril Ward, Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Ward, Mr. and Mrs. Gladstone Ward, Pat Ward, Sir Francis and Lady Boys, Mr. and Mrs. B. B. Wood (Christchurch), Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Tipping (Bluff), Mr. Walter Henderson and Miss Henderson (Invercargill). Telegrams and cables continued pouring in during the past few days, including messages from all parts of the world, even from China. The number exceeded 2000, and over. 100 beautiful floral wreaths were received.
