BLAZING PALACE.

THROUGH FLAMES FOR A CROWN Bucharest, Dec. 14. Stirring scenes were witnessed at the tire which broke out yesterday at the Rumanian royal palace in the heart of the city. The crown and crown jewels were saved at tile risk of his life by the chief of the Bucharest police, who dashed into the throne room through the flames, with cracking walls threatening to collapse on him every second. The ancient trophies of long-gone battles, colors of famous regiments and valuable furniture were removed by volunteer helpers, though the dangers attending the work of salvage were enhanced by the vicinity of a giant oil tank which might have exploded. The lire originated in the servants kitchen and destroyed the reception and throne rooms in the centre of the building. The wings of the palace were saved.
