A SOUTH AFRICAN JUBILEE. Cricket in South Africa has in many parts reached a very high, state of proficiency, and many a champion player has come from that Union. It is interesting to read of the jubilee recently celebrated of the Western Provinces Club, IS7G-192G. It has been one of the famous clubs of South Africa, meeting a Lord Hawke’s team in 1895 and sending a team under Hon. J. Logan to England in 1901. The name Morkel is apparently celebrated in cricket as in Rugby football, for one of the leading players photographed for the jubilee edition of the local paper was a D. Morkel. In the match between a present team and a veterans XI., the latter batted remarkably w r ell, no less than six of them getting double figures and only one was bowled. It. speaks remarkably well for the lasting power and stamina of the men of the past. But it has been proved in more than one country that cricketers retain their powers for a long time.
