NORMANBY.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY. There was a large attendance at the meeting held last night. In the absence of the president, Mr J. A. Archbold was voted- to the chair. An apology was received from Air A'. E. Linn for non-attendance. The secretary reported that a meeting of ladies had been held on Wednesday afternoon to make arrangements for the catering, etc. Those present formed themselves into a committee, with Mrs Franldyn as chairman and Mrs Archbold as secretary and treasurer. The ladies decided to canvass the district at an early date for donations to assist them- in thenwork. It was- left- with the -secretary to arrange for a car to convey the ladies around the district to canvass. The stewards in the various sections will be requested to be on the grounds at 8 o’clock on the first morning of the show. It was decided that exhibits will be picked up as usual at Mr It. Morrissey’s mart at 9 a.m. on the first day of the show, and the poultry at- the same time on the second day of the show for the convenience of Hawera exhibitors. The secretary was instructed to write to Okaiawa. To Roti and Xormanby schools asking them to give the scholars a. holiday on 'Wednesday, March 9, the second day of the show. As the present lease of the society’s- sections expires at the end of this month, fresh tenders are to- he called for them for a period of two years. A working l>ee will be held on Monday week. At the conclusion of the ordinary meeting the entertainment committee met to make arrangements- for the concert and dance to he held on the second night of the show. It was left with Mr J. Taylor and the secretarv to interview Mr E. W. Gate to see if he would arrange for a concert party from Hawera.
