STAY AT' NUKUHIVA. WATCIH NATIVE DANCES. BY GABLE—CRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT MEIaBOURNE, Feb. 10. A wireless message from H.M.S., Renown states that, during the afternoon a large party or Marquesan natives, including some who came nearly 100 miles from other islands, were shown over the ship and entertained at tea in the crew’s quarters. Later, at the suggestion of the Duke and Duchess of York, the Marine’s band piiayed on the village green at Nukuhiva, where native dances were given for the benefit of the liberty men. In the evening the Duke and Duchess entertained the Administrator at dinner aboard, afterwards going ashore to witness a programme of native dances, at which the performers chanted a song which they had recently composed in honour of their Highnesses, singing their praises. The native dances were attractive, and the exhibition was set bizarrely on tbe lawn under flaming naphtha torches while the whole village grouped round seated on the grass.
