THE BREEDING SOW.
A good range for roaming at will, grass to nibble on inclination, ai d a little night and morning is almut all that the brood sow needs dining pregnancy, supplemented, of • otirse, ay admission to .shelter at will, writes a correspondent in the Dairyman. 11 xercise is very important, not only immediate importance, but future importance as well; for the sow, lieaithi >r conditioned as a result, gives birth to a healthier offspring. An Engiisn authority on this subject says that it is possible' to give a little too much attention to the sow just at farrowing time; in other words, one may he a iittle too exact in doing things to assist progress, with tile result that the sow resents, what she considers an intrusion. A resentful sow is far from a pleasing creatine, and in her distaste for undesired services rendered she is
none too gentle to all concerned, including her gradually arriving family. To hastily place a sow in premises unknown to her just as she is about to farrow is not a procedure that can be recomn-e ide.:, for she has a lot to decide upon in her own particular- wa> before she settles down with a clear mind' to deal with the subject which
.is.upper rtiost with her. It is far better to let her make herself acquainted with the interior and immediate surroundings of the farrowing pen by admission thereto for sleeping purposes for a. couple of weeks before due date.
