sii. MELBOURNE CLUB’S TOUR. HAWKE’S BAY MAKES GOOD START. (by telegraph press association.) NAPIER, Eeb. 11. The Australians commenced thenthird match of the tour at Napiei today, meeting Hawke’s Bay on a loie 5 wicket in splendid weather. Hawke s Bay batted first, and the first wicket fell early, White being hrilliaiitlj caugilt in the slips by Onyons off Armstrong. 10—1—3. Elliott, the young left-hand colt, joined Worker and opened with three .brilliant fours. He tfien hit two boundaries off Armstrong, bringing 30 up. He raised 50 in oo minutes by another succession of fours. However, when Wood relieved labeling, he got Elliott caught at mid-oil. 58 —9—35. His score included seven boundaries. Lowry, the New Zealand representative, followed, and a period of slow play ensued till Worker touched one from Wood, and was caught by Armstrong in the slips. 85 —3 -30. Reaney, a Napier High School boy, followed,’ and the century appeared after 68 minutes’ play. A few halls later Lowry mishit one from Eogerson, and was caught by Johnstone in the slips. 108 —4—27. Beuth followed, and play became dull again. After a period, of slow play, Reaney was clean bowled hv Johnstone. 116 —s—ls.
O’Brien, a 17-year-old hoy, arrived, and played out time till luncheon, which was taken with five wickets down for 133. Details of t-lfe scoring are as Follows : HAWKE’S BAY. First Innings.
