KAUPOKONUI BEACH.
WAIMATE OOTJNTY COUNCIL ASKED FOR HELP, The matter of a contribution to the Domain Board at Kaupokonui beach was brought up by Mr Hansen as a. deputation from the board to the Waimate West Council yesterday. He said the board had, by public subscriptions, made many improvements in the form of sheds and other conveniences, and in addition had put in much valuable work on the ground. All the county ratepayers were interested because it was the best bathing beach on that part of the coast. The sand trouble had cropped _ up, and there was a danger of its drifting oyer the grass area unless a sand or wind break was made. Thousands- of people had been down there this, season. He asked for a reasonable subsidy or work to be done. The recent hand effort had resulted in the collection of £]9. and on other holiday times they had got in a fair amount. Cr McKay said it. was_ the only place available for the district, and the board members had done excellent work voluntarily, but money was badly wanted. Mr Hansen said the next -business was to <ret n water supply. _a. shelter shed, life-saving reel, and life buoy. Councillors expressed n general desire to heir* if it could be done, and it was- resolved, on the suggestion of the chairman, to leave the matter until the inspection of the roads was licinrr made and then to inspect the localitv.
