EGG MARKETING.
HAWEBA AND DISTRICT CIRCLE
ANNUAL MEETING. At the annual meeting of the Haw era and District Egg Circle held last evening at the business premises of the secretary, Mr J. C. Smith, the president (Mr Don Stewart) occupied the chair. In presenting the annual report, the executive congratulated rhembers upon the satisfactory progress made during the' year. Altogether 14,586 dozen eggs had been marketed at an average price over the whole season of Is 9Jd per dozen as against 14,436 dozen marketed at an average price of Is 8d for the previous season. The number of eggs marketed would have been greater, but one of the largest suppliers ceased production altogether, while two others disposed of practically the whole of their flocks during the season to replace with fresh strains. The pay-out generally showed an increase at each pool compared with last year, due to exploiting markets in other centres when prices warranted this step. The balance-sheet disclosed a credit on the year’s working of £7 17s. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, the president said it was pleasing to note that the average of the pay-out had increased by 1-Jd, Is 9Jd being highly satisfactory. _ There were one or two difficulties which the Circle had yet to overcome, and among these was 'the matter of co-operative dealing with the "Wellington District Poultry Earmers’ Association, which to tlie present had not been satisfactory. Mr G. H. Kent seconded the motion, which was carried.
Office-bearers were' elected for the current year as follows: President, Mr Don Stewart (re-elected); vice-president, C. J. Bilton (re-elected); auditor, E. G. Dakin.
Messrs G. Gavlard and G. H. Kent retired from the executive by rotation and were re-elected. Two vacancieswere caused on the executive by the retirement of Messrs W. Moore and S. Poulson. To fill one, Mr J. W. Paterson was elected, the other being held over. The personnel of the executive then was Mesrs G. Gaylard, I. E. Hodgetts, H. Kemp, G. H. Kent, J. W. Paterson, and A. Tregea. The secretary read correspondence received from the president of the New Zealand Poultry Association relative to the request from the New Zealand Master Bakers’ and Pastrycooks’ Association to the Government for permission to import eggs on the grounds that not sufficient supplies were available in the Dominion. A coinmission had been decided upon, and after the hearing of extensive evidence advanced by the association and egg producers it had been found that ample supplies of New Zealand eggs were available, and it had been recommended not to allow the importation. The president and several members expressed their appreciation of the satisfactory settlement of the dispute. The president paid a tribute to the services of the secretary, Mr .1. C. Smith, and proposed a hearty vote of thanks, which was carried unanimously. Mr Kent proposed a vote of .thanks to the president, and this was approved by acclamation. Appreciative reference was made to the work done on behalf of the circle by Mr T. H. Trim, and it was decided to donate an amount of two guineas in recognition of his services.
