CANTERBURY DEFEATS OTAGO

The Plunket Shield match between Otago and Canterbury was concluded at Carisbrook yesterday, Canterbury winning by 260 runs. The weather was fine, and the wicket, owing to rain during the week-end, helped, the bowlers all day. Canterbury’s position was already strong when their second innings was resumed. The not out batsmen went quickly, but Evans and Cunningham, in a last wicket stand, added 62, taking the total to 379 and leaving Otago requiring 418 to win. Otago made a bad start in their second innings, Blamires and Knight, who opened, going out early. Then Blunt played a ball into his wicket before he had scored. .. AlcAlullan was the only batsman to make a stand, knocking up 45 in good style. AYheri he went out the innings became little more than a procession, and it closed for 157 runs. Otago’s downfall was brought about by Read and Merritt, who took five for 63 and three for 20 respectively. The scores are: CANTERBURY.
