FAREWELL CONCERT.
TO MISS LEAH HAUGHTON PRELI ALINARY MEETING. With a view to 'arranging a complimentary concei t to Miss Leah Haugiiton, wno wnl leave in Ala-tcii to tuate up her scholarship at -the Royal Academy of Music, London, a public meeting was called for last inglit, at winch the Mayor (Air. E. A. P-a-ceyj presided. In opening the meeting, the Alayor saitl that the public of Hawera. had always responded nobly to- any call made to honour those young students in the town, who had left, for wider fields of study, and 'it was fitting and proper that the .same courtesy ■should be extended to Miiss Haughton, who was going Home in the near future. He would be pleased, lie -added, to do anything he could to assist. An apology was received from Air. A. Gray, who- promised to do whatever he could to -help tlic project. Air. L. O. Hooker said it was regrettable that more interest was not taken in the meeting, hecau.se Mis® Haughton was a great credit to Hawera. He considered they should take up the matter, and try to give .as much help as possible, and give the young -Student a fitting -send off. He was sorry !he would be away, but would be glad to place his office 'at the disposal of the committee. Air, E. Dixon approved the proposal and suggested asking the musical societies—Male Choir, Operatic and Orchestral Societies. Savage Club, and Scottish Society—to help by nominating two delegates each, who-, with those present, would form a committee to organise the concert.' Those present were Ales-srs E. A. Pa coy. E. Dixon. AL Thomas, R-. F. page, L. O. Hooker. Mm, L. A, Taylor, Mrs and Miss Sunderland. It m resolved to call a further meeting for ATorulay next. February 14, when a programme would he outlined.
