RIFLE SHOOTING.

THE TANGARAKAU RANGE. The Tahora Defence Rifle Club opened their new rifle range- at Tangarakau on Saturday last. There was a good attendance of riflemen and visitors. Luncheon and afternoon tea, served on the range by the ladies, were much appreciated. The weather conditions were not the best for good scoring, the wind at times being tricky; nevertheless some fair range scores were registered in A grade. The B grade consisted mostly of young shots, who were out for the first time. They shaped well, and before Jong would help to build up a good team of riflemen. An old member, in the person of Air J. Fmmell, fired the first shot and registered a “bull.” In declaring the range open, he urged on the committee the importance of inducing young men to become members of the club. Range trophies were presented by the president (Mr G. G. White), the seeretarv (Mr J. S. Jepsen), and by Rifleman G. Austin. Mrs J. Manson donated a trophy for the B grade. The club has received a cup for competition from Air J. AlcNeill (New Plymouth); also a donation from its natron (Mr E. Walter, ALP.), of Douglas. Saturday’s scores were as under (10 shots at 300 yards, and seven shots at each of the 500 and 600 yards ranges) : A GRADE.

The winners of tronhies were: 300 yards, G. Man-son (B grade); 500 varrls, T. Torroy (A grade); 600 yards. R. Houston (A grade). W. MoKeitch secured a leg in for Airs J. Manson’s trophy.
