ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
SHOT WHILE PIG-HUNTING. (by telegraph—press association.) HAMILTON, Feb. b. The body of Henry Walter Furniss, IS years of age, lias been found at Pntetcnga. Deceased, who was working on an uncle’s farm, loft on Thursday morning to shoot pigs, stating that he' intended to remain away all clay. When ho did not return a search was made, and the body was found near the house, with several wounds in the head. A shotgun was lying alongside. A DASHING RESCUE. CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 5. A thrilling rescue from the surf took place at Sumner this morning, when Airs Nicholson, wife of the Mayor, whHc bathing, was washed out by an nißk-tow. Several attempts at rescue faWed, until John Brown, a storekeeper, dashed in fully dressed even to the extent of his apron, and carried a life-line to the woman, who was later brought ashore with the aid of a dinghy. She was exhausted, having been in the water for half-an-hour. KILLED BY MOTOR-CAR. WANGANUI, Feb. 5. Thomas Hogan, aged 2G years, was knocked clown by a motor-car at the intersection of Ingestre Street and the Avenue at about noon to-day. He was severely injured. Ho died shortly after admission to the hospital.
