VALUABLE COMPETITIONS. Each year, in order to encourage and foster the growing of that most valuable fodder, .lucerne, competitions are held among the branches of the Farmers’ Union in the district, the judging of which is done by the officers of the Agricultural Department. The judging has just commenced for this season, and will be continued for some time. A few days ago the crops at Okaiawa. were visited by MessrsDeem and Glasson, and seven, were entered. AF proved to be good samples, and showed that tire farmers of Okaiawa are giving the matter of winter feed close attention. There was keen competition for the leading place, and the first three were exceedingly close. Other centres, will be visited during the. iiext few weeks.
