FULL BENCH OF BUYERS

GOOD COMPETITION. (BY TELEGRAPH PEESS ASSOCIATION.) TIMARU, Feb. 4. The second wool safe of the season opened this morning, when catalogues aggregating 17,177 bales were offered. There was a full bench of buyers present, representing upwards of 80 operators. Judging by tlie catalogues disposed of till one o’clock, the market was on a par with Dunedin, there being practically no movement all round. Merinos, which accoding to some of the buyers were as fine a lot as they had seen anywhere this season, showed an advance of Id on the top price at Dunedin. There was exceptionally keen competition for all grades of halfbred wool. Ninety-eight per cent of the first two catalogues found purchasers under the hammer. The following was the range of prices up to one o’clock: Merino.—Super 20.1 d to 23.jd, average 183 d to 20d, inferior 173 d to 18Jd Fine halfbred. —Super 193 d to 20]cl, average 18Jd to 19]d, inferior 16d to 18d.
