RAILWAY PORTER INJURED. (H V I'NLK,GRAPH PREHS ABNOCI 4TION. / OHAKUNE, Feb. 3. The railway porter, M. T. F. Bedell, who was injured yesterday at Ohakune Junction, was taken to Taihape riospital. and was operated on by Dr. Garrick Robertson. His injuries comprised a triple fracture of the .skull and a broken arm. It is surmised that the accident happened by Bedell standing too close to the edge of the platform when the north-bound express entered the station. His lamp struck the engine, the concussion throwing him against the train. The southbound express, carrying a party of doctors going to the Dunedin conference, crossed at Ohakune, and enabled the injured man to be hurried to hospital. SUICIDE. WELLINGTON, Feb. 3. Between 7.30 and 8 a.in. to-day a man cut his throat on the Hutt Road ramp at Petone. He died on the way to the hospital. Papers on the body identify him as James Quin, a ship’s fireman, of unknown address. ACCIDENT ON RACECOURSE. DUNEDIN, Feb. 3. In the Flying Handicap at Tapanui races, Ace of Hearts fell and its rider, N. C. Dwyer, sustained serious head injuries. He was removed to the hospital. VERDICT OF SUICIDE. AUCKLAND, Feb. 3. At the resumed inquest concerning the death of Raoul Alper, Dr. Crow stated that when the deceased was in hospital ho admitted that he- had attempted to commit suicide. Poinl> ing to liis wrist, he said: “This is what I did.” . The Coroner fund a verdict of suicide while temporarily insane.
