The' ideal wea-ther condition's, together with the charts made by the seaside 'society, attracted what is'piobahly a record attendance to the j\aupokonui beach on Sunday, wjxen a programme to assist the beach improvement fund was submitted by the Manaia Municipal Rand, under Conductor J. A. G. Cosgrove. Die 'attendance was e-Tima ted at . 1003 persp-ns, the liver mouth and beach being thronged with bathers. The river leading to the ;eeia. is iegarded as one of the .safest bathing resorts on the coast, while overlooking the river is a. huge natural giandstamE which was used on Sunday by hunch eds of auditors during the baud concert programme. As the result of the collection the funds of the society wili benefit to' the extent of approximate!v £l2. As it -summer resort the beach Ls becoming exceedingly qiopuliair and those responsible lor its aclmiiiisti ation are in ho commended upon for the excellent, manner in which everything possible is being done to cater for the public. Mrs. Hamlin very generously provided afternoon tea for the bandsmen, and her hospitality was much, a pin ociated. The Seaside Oonundtee ,i.s holding a gala day on Wednesday, February 9. when a very 'attractive programme will be provided. - 1
| rniiSO.vvL. Mr Tho-mas H. Broomfield, of Rowan R-oad. Kapuni. has. received the isad news of his- mother’s death at-the residence of her sons at. Oban tan, SoutliI'aml. on Saturday, Jail 22. The deceased was horn in C,Wnwall, England, and came to New Zealand in 1877. Her husband, who predeceased her sixteen years l ago. came from K.iddcinmister, .England. Until about two mouths prior to her death Mrs. Broomfield resided at Annat. Oumterburv. 1 luce of the family of six sons and six daughters also predeceased her. these being Messr-s Frank and Arthur and 'Mis® Annie. She is; survived by Messrs James and John, of Oifcautau ; William, of Annat; Thomas Henry, of Rowan Road; Mrs. T. Fairbarn, of Palmerston North; and the Misses Edith, Ma-r.v. Lillv. and Rene, of Annat. Much sympathy i-s extended to the relations in tlici r Ilerea-vemen t. Mr and Airs NT Davis, Alanaia, celebrated their silver jubilee nodding at; Alanaia oil Wednesday last, when they received many messages of congratulation. GENERAL. There was a very large congregation at St. Cut-bbert’s Church on .Sunday evening on the occasion of the l farewell service by the vicar, Rev. A. C. Swninson, who is proceeding to Plimmertoii this week to take charge there. Tin l public are reminded of the farewell social and presentation to Rev. A. C. Swainson and Mrs Swainson in Alanaia Town Hall on Wednesday night. A splendid programme has been arranged.
