Mr J. R. Corrigan has .been paying a visit- to Hastings, and; was there at tlie end of last week. Commodatore Blunno has been appointed Italian Consul for New .Zealand.
The- appointments of Messrs It. S. Sage and J. M. Townsend as Justices of the Peace have been gazetted. Mr M. C. Ale Leo d, health inspector at Eltham. lias deceived notice of his transfer to Wellington. Air R-. Gooding, of Dunedin, has been appointed to succeed Air AleLeod. Air H. H. Newton, of the Big Tree Oil Company, Wellington, lias been oil a visit to Hawera. He stayed at the Egmont Hotel, and left for Dawson Falls this morning. Amongst the visitors in Hawera at present are Mr and Airs. R. B. Hart, who are visiting their son, Air R. B. Hart, of the Bank of New South Wales.
Dr. R. G. B. Sinclair left for Dunedin this morning by the express train. He will attend the medical congress at the southern city.
A presentation of a smoker’s companion and a clock was made (says an exchange) at Raetihi to the Rev, O. Gibson, who. has been transferred from Raetihi to Patea.
A former member of the Hawera Alale Choir, Mr. E. G. Jones, now of Auckland, was in Hawera last week and .sent a message of hearty greetings t' all members, at the annual meeting of the choir last night.
People arriving at the Central Hotel to-day include: Alessrs H. Card,- J. MacParland, P. Coira, W. Ryan. C. Kettle, O. .Scott, J. Collms and H. G. Warburton, all of Wellington ; Mr G. Glenn, of Wanganui; Air and Airs R. T. Reid, of Hamilton; Mr and Airs S. Tapp, of Marton; Air and Mrs Bagby, of Frankton Junction: Air E. A. Cadow, of Bulls; and Air W. T. Garrett, of Auckland.
Eltham- residents will regret to learn of the death of Mr L. H. DoimeTy, who was in. business in the town for some yearns, and was highly respected. He suffered a lone illness and died at his mother-in-law’s (Mrs Patterson) residence. Ngaruawahia, on Saturday at the age of 52 years. He is survived by his widow, who lives in Derby Street. Eltham, and three .sons and five daughters.—Argus.
Very complimentary references were made at the annual meeting of the Alale Choir last evening by Air E. Dixon and Air F. AY. Homer, to the work of Mr IT. C. A. Fox. Air Dixon said that Air Fox and the Municipal Band were devoting their whole attention to. nreparation.s for the coming contest in Wellington, and he hoped they would bring hack a trophy. Air Horner added that Air Fox always gave of his vorv best, and worked oonscion tionsly and unsparingly in the interests at the c-hoh*
