SHIP DESERTED.
A MYSTERY CLEARED UP. BY CABLE —PRESS ASSOCIATION-COPYRIGHT. LONDON, Jan. 28. A remarkable parallel to the famous loss of the Marie Celeste is disclosed by a story from Berlin. A Norwegian steamer, the “Istiennan,” engaged in walrus Ashing, was found abandoned in 1924 off the Norwegian coast. No one was aboard, but the table was set with food and the lamps were lit. The mystery was never cleared up, and it was thought that the crew of nine had abandoned the ship for some, unknown reason, aud were drowned. Now there has died in hospital at Hamburg a German sailor who confessed that he boarded the “Istiennan,” in company with liquor smugglers. A fight ensued in which the crew were all killed. Their bodies were thro-wn overboard and the murderers then prepared the table and lit the lamps as a blind.
