Mr. G. Syme, Jnr., left for Tangiwai, on the Main Trunk line, by this morning's express. 'Major Breaner, staff officers in charge of No. 8 group, Taranaki military district, has returned, with others of the local defence office staff, from Trentham. where a, course of instruction has been- given to- cadet officers and n.c.c.’s. Messrs. A. C. Pease (M'angatoki) and J. B. Murdoch (Hawera) went to Paten, to-day to attend the quarterly meeting of the South Taranaki Shipping Company. Mr. A. Morton, of Egmont Village, went to Wellington this morning to attend to the first meeting of the board set up by the Government to supervise the agricultural college to be established at Palmerston North. Lieut. A. H. L. Sugden, area officer at Hawera, and adjutant of the 2nd Mounted Rifles, has been transferred to Christchurch, where he will occupy the position of area officer. He left by the mail train on Saturday. Dr. L. Frazer, medical superintendent of the Hawera Hospital, will leave to-morrow for Dunedin where he will attend the medical -conference, comniencinsr later in the week. The gathering will be one of considerable importance in the Australian surgical and medical world. Over 200 doctors are expected from overseas. Lieut. J. N. Ilenry, who is relieving Lieut. A. H. L. Sugden, in the local Defence Office, will be in charge of the course of instruction which 330 cadets of the Stratford Technical High School will undergo between February 14 and February 19.
