It is drafting legislation for the promotion of Buddhism in Russia. The delegates included Burists and Calmucks and others are expected from Mongolia and Thibet. Tile congress aims at the creation of a cadre of Buddhist priests willing to follow Moscow’s directions. The most prominent figure is Dorjiev, who was elected president. In the opening address he pointed out the necessity for the restoration of the ancient form pure Buddhism adaptable to the Soviet’s requirements.—Times.
