HAWKE’S BAY BAM FAIR. (by telegraph - press association.) HASTINGS, Jan. 27 -. The Hawke’s Bay annual rain lair opened to-day in perfect, weather, when 3818 Romneys were offered to a lair attendance of buyers. The bidding opened weakly, improving later, but towards the close many lots were passed in The balance of the Romneys, totalling 1909, will be offered to-morrow, being succeeded by various breed flocks and Saturday will be devoted to studs. The top price amongst the Romneys to-day was 13i guineas for a line of 13 shearlings sold on account of Mr. Smith (Masterton). The total entries are 7537, as against 6506 last year. INVERCARGILL WOOL SALE INVERCARGILL, Jan. 27. At the Invercargill wool sales, with 22,244 bales catalogued, commenced tonight before a full bench of buyers, Bradford, the Continent and America being represented. The wool was piobably the best crossbred offered in New Zealand this year, in light condition, well-grown and free from faults owing to a good winter. The bidding was very spirited and practically nothing was passed in. On last year’s Invercargill sale the prices for line wools showed an advance of about 2d per lb, and on crossbred Id. Dominion buyers were, operating freely. The best price was 9*d for super halfbred. FROZEN MEAT. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report having received the following cablegram from their London house under date of the 20th inst.: —Lamb, N.Z. prime crossbred lamb. Canterbury light 10a d, heavy 7-}d; market weaker; demand moderate. Mutton: N.Z. prime crossbred mutton. Canterbury light 6;[d, heavy 54d; North Island light 6d, heavy "od; market —any change is in favour of buyers. Demand less. Beef: N.Z. prime or beef lands 4d; fores 3id; market nominal; demand nil. Australian frozen meat: Good average quality crossbred lamb, light, fi-d; market weak; demand limited. Good average quality crossbred mutton, light 4-1 d; market weak; poor demand. We quote pork nominally Sd to 9d; baooners, steady at 74d. LONDON WOOL SALES. Messrs Murray, Roberts and Co., Ltd., are in receipt of the following wool market cablegram from London, dated January 25: Sales continue firm; market shows a hardening tendency; French buyers operating freely. Compared "with present London sales opening rates — Crossbred pieces, greasy, medium, advanced 5 per cent.; crossbred greasy pieces, fine, advanced 5 per cent.; slipe crossbred par to 5 per cent, advance. WEST COAST REFRIGERATING COMPANY. The West Coast Refrigerating Company’s produce returns for the fortnight ended January 22, 1927, are as follows: Received in store. 3256 boxes butter, crates of cream 17,664; crates of cheese shipped, 9228.
