BY LABOUR CAUCUS. THE AMENDED SCHEME. BY CABLE—TRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT SYDNEY, Jan. 25. At- the close of the State Cabinet meeting to-day, the Premier (the Hon. J. T. Lang) announced that it had been decided to recommend to the caucus the introduction of the family endowment scheme, providing for the payment to mothers of 6s weekly for each child up to the age of 14, and also for each dependent incapable of earning a living. It is stipulated, however, that there shall be a wage or salary limit of £4OO per annum, and that tho total, amount to be paid to the worker in wages and to his wife in allowances for the children. shall not exceed that amount.

It- is understood that the family endowment scheme will not apply to any married worker who is not in employment, , irrespective of whether he possesses a family or not. Received 11.25 a.m. to-day. SYDNEY, Jan. 26.

The Hon. E. A. McTiernan, At-torney-General, reporting to _ the Ministry on the result of his mission to Melbourne to consult the constitutional authorities on the Child Endowment Bill, said that the State could introduce the scheme without contravening the Federal Constitution. After discussing the amended scheme the caucus decided to adopt the principle of child endowment, hut that- a committee he appointed from the caucus to enquire into the matter and to report to the next meeting of the caucus.
