BLOODSTOCK SALES .

YEARLINGS AUCTIONED AT WELLINGTON TOP PRICE FOR ABSURD-BRONZE COLT. A new era in yearling and bloodstock sales in New Zealand was commenced last Friday with the lirst o the national eales, which are intended to be an annual event in conjunction with the summer meeting of the \\ ellington Racing Club. The jots put up to auction comprised yearlings and older horses, bur the mam feature o; the sale, as it will also be in future, was the yearlings, which mounded those from the Dominion’s most representative studs. There was a huge attendance, including the personal and proxy representation, of Australian •sportsmen. Prices took a wide range, four figures being obtained for the best lots, while some went for a mere song. Several new owners were operating and some of the lots so secured wiif he trained at Trentham. lhe Auckland trainers J. T. Jamieson and J. Buchanan operated freely for' their patrons. The highest price of the sale was raven by the latter trainer for the bav colt bv Absurd—Bronze (brother, to* Glenross, Grotesque, and Anklet), (bred bv Mr'. G. M. Currie). It took 1025 guineas to secure him. this price was closely followed by the 1000 guineas given by Messrs. J. C. and 1 . S. Glee son, of Auckland, for the brown gelding by Solferino —Rose Red (brother to Muscari, and half-brother to Rareful and Zouave), which was soid on account of Mr. J. F. Reid, of the Burnside Stud. Mr. A. B. Williams gave 900 guineas for the bay- colt by Paladin —Sweet Charity. The bay colt by Kiibroney out of the New Zealand and Wellington Cup winner Oratress, brought SOO guineas, being purchased by the Trentham trainer H. B. Lorigan for a new patron. The brown coit bj Paper Money—Puttee, half-brother to Killocra; brought 775 guineas, from Melbourne, a similar price being obtained for the bay filly by Paper Money—Epitaph. C. D. Greenwood bare 725 guineas for the bay colt by Absurd from Cherry Mart, u halfbrother to Mandane, and Mr. W. Scholium, ‘of Auckland, got mr the same price a chestnut fvL’y.full sister to Agrion (Limond-Waterwings). lhe hay colt by' Martian from Songbird s sister Kildoe'" was passed at Sou guineas. Two lots at 600 guineas were the brown gelding by Leighton— Blended, bought by Mr. E. L. Ruddii'ord, and the brown colt by laladin from War Lady, a close relation o! Star Stranger and Naos. Mr. H. I ■ F. Blundell, of Wellington, upwner-of Diogenes; gave 700 guineas for the bay colt _ lialf-brotlior by Tea Trav to Gasbag. The total realisation of the sale was 17 161 guineas. Forty-nine ycailings were 'sold under the hammer' at an average price of 314 1-3 guineas, fourteen head in the supplementary catalogue, sold at 17581 guineas.
