TARANAKI COMPETITIONS. OHANGAI WINS CUTHBERT SHIELD. At yesterday’s meeting of the Taranaki Education Board, held at New Plymouth, it was decided, on the recommendation of the .senior instructor in agriculture, Air It. Cl. Rid ling, with regard to the agricultural competitions conducted at schools in the board’s district, to award the Cuthbert Shield (for competition among schools of grades 3a and upward) to Ohangai, and the Tisch Shield (for schools of grades 0 to 2) to Matau. . . The senior instructor submitted his report as follows : The valuation of the work in agriculture in the various schools was made at the end of the school year, and marks were allotted to determine their relative positions in competitions for the Cuthbert and Tisch shields. The marks were allotted upon the same basis as for last year, these, being:— Arrangement of grounds 50 marks, care of grounds 50. instructional value 50, indoor work 50, experimental work 50, total 250. We are of the opinion that the standard of work throughout the schools generally is quite as high as last year and the difficulty of separating' our schools increases from year to year. The taunts awarded tc the first ten schools' in the higher grades are: —
