The chairman raised the question oi grading the central portion of the Norman by lload, and it was decided to do this work out of loan monies. NOXIOUS WEEDS. The chairman brought up the question of winged-thistle, a weed .resembling Californian thistle. He said it .was most detrimental to the pasture in districts where it became establis;tied. The engineer stated that the .seed w as carried in sheeps’ wool. The clerk was instructed to. notify the Manaia Town Board of the spread oi the weed. Or. Leslie said ox-eye daisy was spreading very badly. Or. Stevenson said it wias disheartening to see neighbours negligent. I lie only way was to keep after the weeds, and get- them out before they seeded.

NATIONAL! PARK GRANT. The Egniont National Park Board applied for the annual grant of .Ids, usually made by the council. Though the council .approved the grant, the matter gave rise to conside able discussion, which indicated that various members felt that the south:- . district had not received due attention. Or. Stevenson said Taranaki did not jet appreciate the. value of the mountain. It would be a pity if the board took up a parochial view in administering' its funds. Manaia would be benefited by an occasional meeting of the board being held in the town. The chairman stated that something like £7OOO had been subscribed in the north for the northern mountain house. Several subsidies bad come along, and these also had been put to that .account. He understood that the nrt ter had now been straightened out. ENGINEER’S REPORT. The engineer reported that the Mam South Road between the Oeo dairy factory and tli? Inaha Road had been put in good order. The tarred portion of the road had been patched, re-surfaced and widened where necessary. Most of the water-tables had been cleaned out, the side-tracks had been graded, and the shoulders of the metal roads made up. About 120 chains of the Upper and over 30 chains of the Lower, Auroa Road had been re-surfaced with bitumen. Two miles of the Manga where Road had been resurfaced with bitumen. The engineer hoped to make a start- with re-surfacing the Manaia road to-morrow. The. whole of the unmetal 'ed portion of the Normanbv Road had been graded and put in good order. The grader had been working on the Upper Inaha Road, and finished there to-day. The engineer said great work was being done with the grader. The roads were in ood cider. 'The report was received. SPECIAL MEETING. At the conclusion of the monthly meeting, the council held a special meeting, the council held a special meeting to decide upon the statutory ha .('-holiday in the county.
