THE PARK FETE.
WORK OF COMMITTEE. WEEKLY GENERAL MEETING. The weekly general meeting of members of the JTark 'Tennis Club, and the Park Bowling Club, for the purpose of carrying forward the preparations' for the fete to be held at King Eld ward Park, on Wednesday, February 9, was held last evening. Mr. W. Grant presided. The organiser, Air. L. O. Hooker, reported that he had dispatched circular:,s to the members .of both clubs. Replies had been received indicating increased interest.
The proposals were gone through in detail, and reports received front members of the committees. Thjse indicated that the stall-holders, and those in charge of the entertainment portions of the fete, had their work well in hand. Reports were received of liberal donations of prizes for competitions.
The holders of the produce, sweets, children’s .«oft drinks, and sandwiches, cakes, afternoon tea and other stalls gave ’ details of requirements to be met.
The secretary stated that he wished to meet the ladies on the ground in order to arrange for the sites- of the stalls. He hoped to hold the first work-ing-bee on Saturday week. The stalls would be put together and decorated in the Winter Show buildings. The ladies agreed to meet the organiser at the Park at 5 p.m. next Thursday afternoon.
The meeting went into the matter of entertainment for the public. A committee- was set up to arrange for music for the. afternoon. Air. E. A. Quin offered to -provide a pig. the grease, and a £1 prize for a greasy pig competition. Airs. Spragg _ will control a Alaypole dance. A committee was appointed to interview Maoris for the purpose of engaging a. troupe to give halvas and poi dances in the afternoon. Comprehensive arrangements were made in connection with the parade. A special feature will be made o f the decorated motor cars. There will he various sections : Ootnme.rcial vehidl'es,- motors driven by ladies, and a section for garage proprietors. The names' of a good number of motorists' in the room 'were handed in -as' intending competitors. Decorated cars would enter the new o-round on the Park from Waihi Road. There will also be “a drunken ’ car exhibit. For the evening it was reported that there would be no less than two bands. Mr. 13. Year bury would organise a gymnastic display. The matter of the copper trail was referred to a. committee from each club. It was resolved to ask each club to supply six gatekeepers. , The lighting of the grounds was Jett to Mr. F. A. Quin. Messrs F A. Quin, and O. W. OurtL and Mrs. Spragg were appointed a committee to interview owners of commercial vehicles in regard to the decorated motor iseetion.
