For the convenience of passengers we have now opened in Hawera a CENTRALLY SITUATED BOOKING OFFICE in Princes Strete (sub-leased from the Egmont Hotel) in which we have our own telephone installed: ’phone number 341. This is in addition to our USUAL DEPOT at CRITERION GARAGE, Regent Street (Lysons, Foord and Keilar, Ltd.) where the cars are housed overnight, and which will still remain our STARTING OFF POINT FOR ALL CARS. From our office 'phone in Egmont Building we have an EXTENSION ’PHONE into the driver’s bedroom (’phone 341), and another driver has the ’phone at his residence, c/o Mr Blake (’phone 219), so that INTENDING PASSENGERS can book at any time of the day or night. REDUCED FARES. S.O.S. have not been COMPELLED BY COMPETITION, as some people think, to reduce the fare: it is a natural outcome of our expansion. Having now a much more frequent service wo can deal with increased passenger traffic, and we knew from the popularity of our WANGANUI-WELLINGTON service (130 miles for £1) that reduced fares on the Hawera section would bring INCREASED PATRONAGE. It was our enterprise in establishing a service 4£ years ago in face of adverse circumstances, and later our further enterprise by making a motor connection with ASHHURST, enabling passengers to get from New Plymouth to NAPIER and Wairarapa IN. ..ONE DAY, that has been such a boon to those who have only a limited time available for travelling. S.O.S. enterprise in FIRST ESTABLISHING the above services paved the way and brought into being the splendid chain of motor services now operating oetween NEW PLYMOUTH and WELLINGTON.
