The crew from the Hamilton Club was first home in the light-weight maiden fours at Whangarei, but the Auckland Bowing Association has ruled that they are ineligible for the prize(says the Waikato Times). The association decided that “as the Hamilton crew were not in their true position as drawn, and not started by the starter with the other crews, they were, therefore, judged not to have started. ’ ’ When the protest was lodged by the Auckland club after the race, the umpire, who also acted as starter, ruled that Hamilton were the winners, and it is that decision which the association has upset. The facts show that Hamilton were late in reaching the post owing to having to free their boat of water which was taken aboard when going to the starting post in a very rough sea. When close to the mark the other crews were despatched. Hamilton went on to -the mark, turned round, overhauled the other competitors, and won. Bargain time at Harr ops!
