At a special meeting of tlie Hawera County Council held to-day. Saturday, as nrevioirsly. was decided upon as the statutory closing day within the county. “Eleven per cent, of the total current >-a tes struck on European property owners have been collected, as compared -vith 22f per cent in respect of Maori owned property,” said the Hawera County Council clerk (Mr. J. W. Hardinc) at the meeting of the council today. He added that in addition to current rates the sum of £417 had been paid by Maori property owners in respect of rates formerly outstanding.
