ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
A GIRL DROWNED. BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION NELSON, Jan. 7. Muriel Burns, a daughter of O. Burns, of Nelson, aged 16, employed a.s ,a domestic at Takaka, was found drowned in Hie Takaka River. Deceased left a note saying good-bye to her friends. LEVEL CROSSING ACCIDENT. WALMATE (S.L) Jan. 7. The driver of a half-ton truck, F. Tew. an employee of the South Canterbury Power Board, had a miraculous escape from injury in a level-crossing accident at High Street. Tew was approaching tlie crossing when he heard a train whistle. Tie put oil the brakes and then, finding he could not stop in time, accelerated and almost got over in time, the buffer of the engine, catching the rear of the truck, which rolled over on to the 1 roadside. Teiv was uninjured and little damage was done to- the 1 truck.
