FUNDS FOR RESEARCH WORK APPEAL OVER-SUBSCRIBED SYDNEY'S BIG EFFORT. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT Received 11.20 a.m. to-day. SYDNEY, Jan. 8. Appeal to the public to subscribe £IOO,OOO towards the Sydney University cancer research fund, issued a few months ago, proved a splendid success. It was generously bac-Ked by the efforts of the press, organisations of all descriptions and private muiiificance. It was officially closed at the end of the year with £119,000 in hand. Since then it has increased to £123,000 and money is still coming in. With unexpected large Binds in hand, the latest laboratories and apparatus are already in working order and a nucleus staff is at work. Nothing now stands in the way of launching .the first big effort in the proposed wider campaign for treatment of tuberculosis and an attempt to perfect curative methods. The chief present objective will be to improve existing methods of treatment. Committees composed oi representatives of hospitals and specialists will exhaustively collect and tabulate all data connected with research.
