FELL OFF FIRE ENGINE
FIREMAN RECEIVES INJURIES. (BV TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 6. When the New Brighton Fire Brigade which attended a fire last night, stopped at a water plug, it was found one member of the engine crew, IV. H. Fooley, was missing. A motorist, who was attracted by the blaze, was proceeding to the fire, when he found the fireman lying unconscious on the road. It appears that as the engine was nearing the water plug, Tooley lifted a reel of hose, intending to> drop it on the ground ready for running out. In doing so he fell, but liis fall was not noticed by other members of the engine crew and the engine did not istop. Tooley suffered injuries to his head and back. The. fire was at Palmer’s Road. North Beach, an unoccupied house belonging to F. Peters being destroyed.
