With so many of the commercial premises still closed on account of the year-end vacation, it is only to be expected that the business portion of the town will appear quiet until work is generally resumed. This position, which at present obtains in Hawera, will probably remain unchanged until the beginning of next week, when the legal, local body and other offices are expected to reopen. The long vacation enjoyed by members of the professions included in this category throughout the Dominion is no doubt responsible, to a large extent, for the number of tourists which still pass through the town, but it is expected that, while this traffic will continue for some considerable time vet, it will be materially lessened after the end of the present week. “Of all the places we have visited on our world tour I liked Hong Kong and New Zealand the best/’ stated Mr F. W. Kellogg, who arrived in Wei 'ington by the Carimthia on Friday. “The British Government are to be congratulated on the way they govern Hong Kong. While there I took pains to go through the native portion of the city in company with a Chinese merchant. who had lived for some time in San Francisco, and we found a very nositive opinion that to be under British rule was the ideal condition.” Glad singing housewives confront us at every turn, thanks to No-Rubbing haundry Help, the famous abolisher of washboard slavery. “So say ail of us.” Hawera grocers. —Advt. A piquant relish is Sharland’s Table Vinegar. Pure, economical, and free from mineral acids. Bott’e and draught. 1
