TOKIO, Dec. 28. .Emperor Hirohito held court at the Imperial 'Palace. He announced his ascension to the throne and pledged himself to follow the high example of his ancestors. At the same time his Majesty commanded his subjects 1 to seek unity and harmony at home and abroad, especially devoting themselves to the study of signal changes in world conditions, which demand the unity of the nation in securing progress, though that progress must be slow. His Majesty laid down that simplicity, originality, progress and beneficent friendship with all nations would be the cardinal aims to which the throne’s greatest solicitude would be directed. The entire assemblage of court dignitaries, through Reijiro Wakatsuki, Minister for 'Home Affairs, on behalf of the people of Japan, pledged theiv loyalty.
